Today I spent lunch with students and staff at Tractor Design School in Surry Hills, chatting about the design process and pathways into the design industry.
Tractor have a really great set up. The main space is completely open with students and teachers all sitting together – there are no offices. This open design is creating a collegial atmosphere that reminds me a lot of our studio here in Sydney.
The lunchtime chats are also set up in a really interesting way. It's more of a conversation where the students and teachers eavesdrop, not really a formal lecture situation. Maddy—a first year student—asked me some insightful questions that reflect well on the level of design maturity of the student cohort. If you see the word Tractor on a resume, pay attention.
